Football Stadiums, Their Effect On Winning, Wagering and Online Gaming

jk

When you think of Las Vegas, the first few things that probably come to mind are hotels, casinos, online casinos and sports betting. Last week, all eyes were on the Super Bowl and that meant that a bigger than usual crowd gathered in Vegas to make plays on America’s biggest game. Super Bowl XLIII was played in Tampa and saw the Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Arizona Cardinals and it makes you wonder if teams from a certain city or climate and that play in a certain stadium are better equipped to win the big game.

The Steelers play at Heinz Field, an outdoor stadium where the turf is known to get choppy and are no strangers to cold and snow when it gets later in the year. The Cardinals play at brand new University of Phoenix Stadium where the retractable roof makes conditions ideal for throwing and running the football.

Pittsburgh was 6-2 as a road team this season, meaning that besides being used to adverse conditions when playing at home, that they can also deal with tough conditions at visiting stadiums. The Cardinals on the other hand were 3-5 on the road, away from their dome stadium comforts and even when they met at a neutral site in Tampa, people gave the edge to Pittsburgh not only because they are very talented but also because they travel well and having regular conditions are just a plus for them.

But does that mean that only cold weather teams that play in outdoor stadiums are set up nowadays to win a Super Bowl? Going back over the past 10 years, the Super Bowl has been won by one “warm weather team”, being the Tampa Bay Bucs (Raymond James Stadium) and two “dome teams”, being the St. Louis Rams (Edward Jones Dome)  and Indianapolis Colts (RCA Dome at that time). The 7 other combined winners (New York Giants, Patriots, Ravens and Steelers) are more or less used to playing in cold weather.

Even when the Rams won the Super Bowl, they played all of their play-off games in domed stadiums and the Super Bowl itself at the Georgia Dome. This team was a team that was known for their speed and finesse and playing on turf meant that they had an advantage on just about everyone because they were faster than everyone else. It’s detail like this that you have to keep in mind when wagering on NFL games and especially when making big plays in the play-offs or Super Bowl.

Talent, coaching, injuries and schemes remain the most important indicators when trying to evaluate teams but variables like weather, climate and stadium turf can equalize teams greatly. The Miami Dolphins were the worst team last year and should have been beaten soundly by these same Pittsburgh Steelers when they played on November 27 2008, but horrible weather and field conditions kept it to just a 3-0 win for Pittsburgh.

Wagering on sports, especially football, means keeping up with a lot of information and people who are not into that will gravitate more towards online gaming. Weather plays no factor, climate doesn’t matter and if a player is in the mood to play blackjack right now, he or she can play at the best online blackjack casino, regardless of the time and from the comfort of his or her own home.

If you are into sports and are capable of keeping up with player injuries, coaching changes, talent levels and even weather and stadium conditions, you might have a shot at picking NFL games. On the other hand, if you just want to play casino games whenever you desire and even enjoy perks like getting the best online casino bonuses that you can find, casino gaming is probably more suited for you.
