Pittsburgh, PA

Set along the banks of the Allegheny River with sweeping views of the Pittsburgh skyline, Acrisure Stadium—formerly Heinz Field—stands as one of the NFL’s premier venues. The stadium serves as the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who previously played at Three Rivers Stadium from 1970 through 2000, sharing the multipurpose facility with Major League Baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates. During the 1990s, as teams across the league began modernizing their facilities, the Steelers evaluated their long-term stadium strategy. Team president Dan Rooney initially explored renovating Three Rivers Stadium into a football-only venue. However, feasibility studies determined that renovation costs would rival those of new construction, prompting a strategic shift toward building a state-of-the-art stadium.

In 1997, public financing was approved to support new homes for both the Steelers and the Pirates. Construction on the Steelers’ stadium commenced on June 18, 1999, on a site adjacent to Three Rivers Stadium. For more than two decades, the venue was known as Heinz Field after the Heinz secured the naming rights. In July 2022, global fintech firm Acrisure acquired a 15-year naming rights agreement, ushering in a new era under the Acrisure Stadium name.

Designed in a distinctive horseshoe configuration, the stadium features an open south end that frames panoramic views of downtown Pittsburgh and its iconic skyline. The seating bowl consists of two primary, three-tiered grandstands along the sidelines, while the lower deck fully encircles the field to create an intimate and energetic atmosphere. Additional bleacher seating is positioned on the north side’s upper level. The stadium’s seating capacity originally totaled 65,500, including approximately 7,000 club seats and 120 luxury suites. Anchoring the open south end is a massive 28-by-96-foot video board, enhancing visibility and the overall fan experience.

Acrisure Stadium offers a wide array of amenities, including entertainment plazas, retail team stores, and diverse dining options. On the east side, the expansive 40,000-square-foot Great Hall serves as a central gathering space where fans can explore memorabilia, murals, and exhibits celebrating Pittsburgh’s rich sports heritage. Prior to the 2014 NFL season, a 35-by-73-foot HD scoreboard was installed in the northwest corner, further modernizing the venue’s technology.

Following the 2014 season, the Steelers completed a $34.5 million expansion project that added approximately 3,000 seats in the south end zone for the 2015 season, increasing overall capacity to more than 68,000. Since opening in 2001, the Steelers have enjoyed sustained success at Acrisure Stadium, capturing three AFC championships and two Super Bowl titles. The franchise’s loyal fan base remains among the NFL’s most dedicated, with every home game sold out since 1972.
