The Kansas City Chiefs have a storied history in the region dating back to their arrival in 1963. For more than five decades, the team has played at Arrowhead Stadium—one of the NFL’s most iconic venues and a beloved home for generations of fans. Over the past decade, numerous NFL franchises have either built new stadiums or completed major renovations to modernize their facilities. During this period, the Chiefs evaluated options to renovate Arrowhead Stadium or construct a new stadium within the Kansas City metropolitan area, either in Missouri or Kansas.
In 2024, the team unveiled an $800 million renovation plan designed to modernize Arrowhead Stadium. However, Missouri voters rejected a proposed sales tax increase intended to help fund the project. In December 2025, the Chiefs announced plans to build a $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas. State lawmakers approved public funding to cover approximately 60 percent of the project’s cost, with the Chiefs financing the remainder.
Scheduled for completion by the 2031 season, the new stadium will feature a retractable dome and seating for approximately 65,000 fans.
